Description

With unlikely probability, two major hurricanes struck Florida within three weeks of each other in the fall of 2004. The 5,500 linear foot Intake Canal of the Florida
Power & Light St. Lucie Nuclear Plant experienced moderate or severe erosion of its canal balks,

There were two primary goals for the repair. First was to restore the alignment and cross-sectional geometry of the canal as per the original design. This required dredging excess sediment in the canal and subsequent filling and grading of the eroded side slopes. The second was to install a concrete lining to protect the slope against erosive conditions. This lining will be either a Filter Point Fabric Form (FPFF) grout-filled fabric or an Articulated Concrete Block (ACB) mat system. Both of these systems are acceptable solutions, and will be chosen based on competitive bid price.
